Former breeding bird,

now a rare vagrant in the Netherlands.

About seventy years ago, the Woodchat Shrike still bred in South Limburg. Nowadays, its habitat is in Southern Europe. It winters even further south, in tropical Africa. Each year, a few individuals are spotted in the Netherlands, but it remains a rare sighting. The bird in the attached photos is a female and was admired for several days on Texel.
