September and October are prime months for vagrants. These may arrive from the far west (America) or the far east (Asia). A rare Bonaparte’s Gull has already been on show for a week along the ferry route between Den Helder and Texel. Unfortunately, in recent days it has shown a preference for Den Helder… This is only the eighth record of this North American gull for the Netherlands, and the second for Texel. Less rare is Yellow-browed Warbler. This small songbird is observed annually in the Netherlands, mainly on the Wadden Islands and along the west coast. Its breeding grounds lie in the West Siberian taiga, while it spends the winter mostly in Southeast Asia.
