For the first time in over forty years,

01 August 2025

a pair of Red-backed Shrikes has bred again in the dunes of Texel. The last known breeding event dates back to 1984.

With four successfully raised young birds, it's a successful breeding event — fantastic news, of course!

Red-backed Shrikes are observed on Texel every year during spring and autumn migration. Hopefully, we can welcome this beautiful species as a breeding bird on Texel in the years to come as well.
