Most breeding bird species gradually move southward, and the chances of encountering rare migrants increase.
On August 15, I found a Melodious Warbler at the northern tip of the island. This species mainly breeds in southwestern Europe, where it replaces “our” Icterine Warbler. It was only the eighth record ever for Texel. In recent weeks, several rarities have already been seen, including Black Stork, Pacific and American Golden Plover, Greater Sand Plover and Barred Warbler. In the coming weeks, this list will undoubtedly grow further.
