Wednesday, June 19, 2019. Finding a special bird during an excursion is of course incredibly fun. Calling loudly from the dunes near the Renvogelveld, a Lapwing spec flew to the field and showes itself beautiful. A Red-wattled Lapwing! The bird had a perfect plumage and was unringed. The same bird has probably been seen in southern Germany and Belgium in previous weeks. A few days later the bird was observed on the island of Ameland on 23 June. Based on external features, it concerns the western subspecies aigneri. The Dutch rarities committee may consider this species. If accepted, it is a new species for the Netherlands.
