At the moment Wagejot at the east side is a good place to watch waders. Fairly close Bar-tailed Godwits, Redshanks, Curlew Sandpipers, Red Knots and Dunlins are foraging in mixed groups. Also some Common Snipes, Wood Sandpipers, Little Stints and Ruffs are often seen. Minimum 5 Black Storks are present for weeks and mainly observed in the area between the Muy and Horsmeertjes. Also two Cattle Egrets stay a long time on Texel and are regularly seen around Den Hoorn near campsite Loodsmansduin. The Pacific Golden Plover is an almost annually observed rarity. On July 11, a bird was observed from the northern vantage point in the Slufter. Less rare but certainly a rare guest on Texel is the Purple Heron. Observations of two flying birds above Dorpszicht on 17 July and one bird on July 26 at the Wagejot are definitely worth mentioning. Past few weeks Kingfishers have been seen in several locations. After a few severe winters sightings of this species were the last two years very rare. Incidentally, the Kingfisher is not a breeding bird on Texel.
