Colder temperatures and a favorable east wind provide much arrival in particular Goldcrests, Redwings, Reed Buntings, Robins, Northern Wheatears and Pipits. Of course this also means that other less common species come along. For instance, recent days have been seen several Grey Shrikes, Richard's Pipits, Red-throated Pipits, Eurasian Treecreepers and Little Buntings.
The record of a Green Woodpecker at the lighthouse on 9 and 10 October is special. This species is very rare on the island. The run-up to next Dutch Birding weekend is hopeful. Today sightings were reported of a Rough-legged Buzzard (Grote Vlak), Red-necked Phalarope (Grote Vlak) and some Yellow-browed Warblers (Tuintjes and holiday resort De Krim). With the expected high turnout of birdwatchers the chance of finding rare species will increase!
